Document templates are where all the elements that make up a Nod document come together into a cohesive whole. Templates are made up of content assets, the building blocks of Nod. Therefore, a template is going to be made up content assets, form fields and the rules that govern how a document behaves.
Here is how you create a document template in Nod.
1. Name your Document Template
Navigate to the 'Templates' tab and click the 'New' button. Then give your template a name that you are going to recognise. For example, if you're a financial planner who is going to be using the document template for creating Statements of Advice, we'd recommend naming the template 'Statement of Advice'!
2. Drag in Content Assets
One of the really nice features of Nod is it's drag-and-drop template creation experience. Rather than needing to know computer code so you can code a Microsoft Word template, Nod makes document template construction accessible to anyone in your organisation, not just those with a technical background or engineering degree. To drag in a content asset, head over to the 'library' tab on the right hand side of the Template screen. You can then search or scroll to the document content you want to drag into your template. Click and hold the content and drag it into the appropriate position in your document template.
You should know that content will appear in a document in the order it is stored in the template so where you put your content assets in the template really matters! Don't forget to click the green 'Apply Changes' button regularly to avoid losing your work.
3. Check the Form
On the left hand side of your Template screen you will find the Form. The Form is what allows you to enter data into a document. This includes things like Client Name, Superannuation Product etc. These form fields can be linked to your XPLAN to remove the need to double handle data. Each Form is unique to a Template so it's important to ensure that you have all the form fields you need to complete the document template. New form fields can be created using the 'Create Form Field' button located within each form section.
4. Apply Changes and Test
Once you've completed your document template in Nod and are happy with how it looks, make sure you click the green Apply Changes button one last time. At this point, you can be sure that all documents created from this document template will include all your latest changes. It's always good to test your template by creating a test document with it as well. To do this, navigate to the Documents tab in Nod, select the 'New' button and make sure you select your new document template from the template selection list.
